Prepar3D v4 has been released – now what? Addon compatibility and developer plans

0

with the P3D website crashing and many of us making the switch to v4, you were probably quite disappointed to find that nearly all aircraft and scenery have not been updated to work with v4 yet, let’s take a look at what we know so far with compatibility

Chaseplane…

an experimental update has been released but many users are experiencing issues with it crashing or failing to launch, but we should see this ironed out fairly quickly

ORBX…

ORBX will be releasing an update for FTX Central very soon, hopefully, tomorrow which will enable it to detect P3D v4 and transfer scenery correctly

Most scenery developers…

scenery developers such as flytampa and flightbeam will be pushing out the standard updated v4 installers for their scenery, nothing special here for the most, just a simple update to make sure everything gets installed smoothly – but some sceneries require special updates to make them fully compatible as some users have been running into problems with elevation issues

But… you can install most sceneries right now, either by pointing the installer to P3D v4 or changing some settings in regedit, then just using the scenery browser in the sim to load it in, this works in almost all cases, but there are some problems with more advanced scenery

PMDG…

we got this statement earlier, explaining the plans for the near future

“We’ve been working hard preparing the 64bit versions of the PMDG 747-400 and the PMDG 777-200/300 for Prepar3D version 4. We’re seeing substantial performance gains that we’re excited for you to experience. We’ll be rolling these out as soon as they are fully ready. For those of you itching to fly the PMDG 737NGX in a 64-bit environment, we’ll be releasing those updates shortly after.

The PMDG Douglas DC6 is already flying in P3Dv4, and we hope to have the 64-bit version fully ready for you on release day!

Remember, if you already own one of these aircraft for P3D version 3, or plan to buy, the transition to the P3Dv4 version is absolutely free. Check out PMDG’s full product line at www.PMDG.com

FSlabs…

as of today, beta testers for fslabs will have access to the 64 bit version of the a320x, as said in their announcement

“As soon as Prepar3D v4 releases, we will be able to share our x64 compatible A320-X version with our beta testers. There has been very significant and complex code changes to allow for x64 support so we want to take some time to ensure that everything works out smoothly before rolling the product out to our customers.

Once the P3Dv4 A320-X is released, it will be available FREE OF CHARGE to all existing A320-X P3Dv3 customers *** as of that date ***.”
